Artist's Comments
Here's what Kathelyne has to say about her creation:
This gamurra (or Cotta) is worn over a Camicia, the support and shaping of the silhouette is done by the gamurra. A gamurra would be worn in private situations (etc, in your own home) and ladies would have worn a giornea or cioppa over this at other times (ie, going out). The Camicia I am wearing with this is a tunic cut, while these were being replaced with pleated/gathered ones (seen here [link] ) the tunic variety was still worn (see here [link] and [link] ), especially by the not so rich or fashionable. This outfit is 100% hand sewn and made by me, with the exception of the shoes which were hand sewn by my dad.
Inspiration: Italian art from the 1470s and early 1480s, including [link] [link] and [link]
Pattern: Draped by myself.
Fabric: Light blue 60/40 linen/cotton (that was only $2.50 a metre)
Era/location: 1470/80s. Italian (Florentine)
